Whether you are using pyramid training methods, H.I.T. training methods, or what ever. The bottom line is that we are all working up to some kind of ball breaking set. You can put what ever name on it that you want. If you are not doing that, what are you doing? Even when you are using H.I.T. you are not walking up to the bar loaded to the max, and then doing one crazy set. You are doing warm ups to get to that one set. I do this for my home based workouts.
It would be irresponsible, and dangerous to do that. The way that you get to that max set is to be sure that you get the muscles warmed up. It is going to aid you in not only being safe, but also performing better. I know that when I am properly warmed up, my working sets are much, much better. The exercise programs that are out there have many advantages, and disadvantages.
This is especially true when it comes to dead-lifting. I usually do about 12 reps on a weight that I can safely handle cold, and after that I am ready. After that I will do 5 heavy sets all the same amount of weight, but decreasing in reps as I go along. That is what makes sense of me. It might not be the same for you. You have to be able to find what works well for you. It is a journey, that is both fun, and exciting.
