Anonymous Surfing

Below is information that you are giving away right now as you visit sites. Anonymous surfing is easy if you know what type of information to block. The end goal is to give away as little information about yourself as possible and we’ll help you do just that. Microsoft Renames Its IPTV Platform

Microsoft Corp. unveiled on Sunday a new brand name for its Internet-based television platform, a service deployed by 10 companies including AT&T Inc. Microsoft Mediaroom, formerly known as Microsoft Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), will link with computers found in the home to allow users to access a PC hard drive to listen to music or view photos on a TV screen, the company said. The television push by the world’s largest software maker aims to deliver TV over high-speed Internet networks and hopes the software will eventually open up the TV to a world of services already on the Web. Microsoft said Mediaroom will also enable some applications that access the Internet without a Web browser, so users can view streaming online video or look at photos uploaded onto the Internet. The company said it will introduce a toolkit to allow developers to create applications for the Mediaroom platform.

FBI Pulls Plug on Several Botnet Hackers

More than 1 million computers are used by hackers as remote-controlled robots to crash online systems, accept spam and steal users’ personal information, the FBI said Wednesday. The government has no way to track down all the computers, both in the U.S. and elsewhere, that hackers have massed into centrally controlled collections known as botnets. But the FBI has pulled the plug on several botnet hackers, or zombies. One man was charged this week in a scheme that froze computer systems at Chicago-area hospitals in 2006 and delayed medical services.

Google will open R&D center in Singapore

Singapore would be more important IT business hub in the region. Internet search company Google Inc. plans to open a research and development center in Singapore, its first in Southeast Asia, a newspaper reported Tuesday. Google’s managing director of Southeast Asian sales and operations, Richard Kimber, was quoted in The Straits Times newspaper as saying Singapore was picked for its “very vibrant ICT (information, communications and technology) space.” Google’s research centers outside of the United States typically focus on adapting its products for local markets, but also are involved in developing new offerings and fine-tuning existing ones, the report said. Three of its eight research and development centers around the world are in Asia, the paper reported. Public relations firms representing Google in Singapore and in Sydney, where Kimber is based, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
