Future Tech Advances From Asia – Bill Gates

Future technology breakthroughs will increasingly come from Asia, Microsoft Corp. Chairman BillGates said Saturday, adding that research being done at the software giant’s regional development centers was among the best in the world. Gates’ comments come at the end of a visit to China during which he announced several new ventures, including US$3 (€2.21) software packages for government-subsidized student computers. In a speech to a regional economic forum in southern China, Gates said Americans were increasingly expecting Asia to produce major new leaps in computers and other technology, citing in part the region’s strong showing in engineering and the sciences.

Google will open R&D center in Singapore

Singapore would be more important IT business hub in the region. Internet search company Google Inc. plans to open a research and development center in Singapore, its first in Southeast Asia, a newspaper reported Tuesday. Google’s managing director of Southeast Asian sales and operations, Richard Kimber, was quoted in The Straits Times newspaper as saying Singapore was picked for its “very vibrant ICT (information, communications and technology) space.” Google’s research centers outside of the United States typically focus on adapting its products for local markets, but also are involved in developing new offerings and fine-tuning existing ones, the report said. Three of its eight research and development centers around the world are in Asia, the paper reported. Public relations firms representing Google in Singapore and in Sydney, where Kimber is based, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. 5 Menit Dapat Mengubah Hidup Anda

Apple invites Windows users to Safari

The company is inviting Windows users to sample its Safari Web browser and urging third-party developers to try their hand at the iPhone. A beta version of Safari for Windows is available now, CEO Steve Jobs announced during his keynote speech at the company’s 2007 Worldwide Developers Conference. Safari will also allow Web developers to create applications for the iPhone using common Web development standards that can interact with the rest of the applications that will ship with the iPhone. Jobs previewed several features that will be shipped with Leopard, the next version of Mac OS X, which is scheduled for launch in October and will be priced at $129. One new feature is called Stacks, which lets Mac OS X users see the files inside a folder in the dock, the row of application icons usually found at the bottom of the desktop screen, making it easier to find …

Using VPN to Avoid Packet Sniffing

Last week on the free ware review, I wrote about the simplicity of packet sniffing and analyzing with Ethereal. I revealed how easy it was for anyone to tap sensitive data like login information, credit card numbers, social security number, and mission-critical emails traveling on the network. As promised, I will reveal how to actually prevent packet-sniffing software from reading your sensitive data. As I previously explained, packet analysis passively listens into a network and then extracts the important data, which is usually in plain text. The key to hampering packet analysis is encrypting that data sent on the network so that it is not read in plain text. The encrypted data that packet analyzers gather is pretty useless without an encryption key. While it is possible for crackers to obtain the key, encryption makes the process a lot longer (and sometimes nearly impossible). There are a couple common ways …

Google analytics

I was so excited when Google Analytics was released to the public. At that time, I was a regular reader of ProBlogger.net – helping bloggers earn money. Darren Rowse broke the news to the blogging community that Google Analytics was offering free accounts on a first-come-first served basis. When I finally received my invitation from Google, I immediately added all of my websites to be tracked and painstakingly followed each and every instruction -that is, every instruction except for this one: “It [the source code] should be immediately before the [ending] body tag of your page, and should look exactly as it was provided to you.” Server Slowdowns Why was that important. When I learned JavaScript, I understood that most code belongs in the starting “head” tag so that you can be sure that the code is executed – and I wanted to make sure that this code was executed …
